ERPNext vs Odoo: Comparing the Two Leading Open-Source ERPs
ERPNext and Odoo are both open-source ERPs, but they’re built differently. ERPNext is fully open source under GPLv3 with no paid enterprise edition and no per-user fees. Odoo is open-core: its Community edition is LGPLv3, while many features live in the paid Enterprise edition, listed at roughly $25–$61 per user per month depending on plan and billing. Odoo has the larger app ecosystem and partner network. ERPNext keeps every feature free and costs the same at 10 users or 100.

The honest answer
Choose ERPNext if…
- You want every module available without an enterprise license
- Per-user fees would grow significantly as you hire
- You want to customize deeply and own the result
- Manufacturing, distribution, or services with standard needs
Choose Odoo if…
- You want a large partner network and app marketplace
- You value Odoo’s user interface and breadth of business apps
- You plan to use Odoo Studio or Enterprise-only features
- You prefer an all-in-one hosted plan with support included
A worked example
Twenty users on Odoo Standard at the low end of its listed annual range ($24.90) is about $5,980 a year; at the Custom plan’s low end ($49) it is $11,760 a year. ERPNext has no per-user fee — hosting runs from $5 to $20 a month on Frappe Cloud, more if self-hosted at scale — plus implementation, which both ERPs need.
Run your own numbers in the cost calculator →What migration involves
Moving between ERPs follows the same pattern regardless of direction: map the chart of accounts, items, customers, suppliers, and open balances, migrate at a period end, and summarize history rather than moving every transaction. Custom modules must be rebuilt for the target framework.
