ERPNext

ERPNext is an open-source ERP — an alternative to NetSuite and SAP Business One — covering accounting, inventory, manufacturing, CRM, HR, and projects, with no license or per-user fees. It is built on the Frappe framework and licensed under GPLv3, and can be self-hosted or run on Frappe Cloud.

What it is

ERPNext in plain terms

ERPNext is developed by Frappe and built on its Python and JavaScript framework. Nearly everything in it is a configurable "doctype", so businesses can add fields, forms, workflows, reports, and whole custom apps without modifying the core — which is what makes upgrades manageable.

A good fit when…

  • Small and mid-sized manufacturers, distributors, and service businesses
  • Companies where per-user ERP licensing would dominate the software budget
  • Businesses that need accounting, inventory, and manufacturing in one system they own
  • Operations with processes that need deep customization

Choose something else when…

  • Multi-entity enterprises with complex financial consolidation and audit requirements
  • Teams expecting an ERP to work without process design — every ERP implementation needs that work, open source or not
Self-hosting

What running it involves

  • Linux (Debian/Ubuntu officially supported) or macOS
  • MariaDB, Python, Node.js, and Redis/Valkey — Frappe v16 lists MariaDB 11.8, Python 3.14, Node.js 24, and Redis 6+
  • The bench CLI to manage sites and apps
  • wkhtmltopdf (patched Qt build) for PDF generation, and cron for scheduled jobs and backups

Version requirements change between Frappe releases, so we pin them per project. Frappe Cloud removes this work entirely if you prefer managed hosting.

Managed option

If you’d rather not self-host

Frappe Cloud lists site hosting from $5 per month and dedicated servers from $20 per month, with no per-user fees, as of September 2026.

Requirements and prices are from the project’s own docs and pricing pages as of September 2026 — see sources below.

What we do

Deploying and customizing ERPNext

Switching

Migrating to ERPNext

ERP migrations are the most involved of any switch: chart of accounts, opening balances, items, customers, suppliers, open orders, and stock levels all need mapping and reconciliation, ideally cut over at a period end. Historic transactions are usually summarized rather than moved line by line, and rolling out by module reduces risk.

FAQ

ERPNext — common questions

Is ERPNext really free?+
The software is free — its repository is licensed under GPLv3 and there are no per-user fees. You pay for hosting and for implementation, which every ERP needs.
What does ERPNext run on?+
The Frappe framework, with MariaDB, Python, Node.js, and Redis, managed with the bench CLI on Linux or macOS. Frappe v16 lists MariaDB 11.8, Python 3.14, and Node.js 24.
Can ERPNext replace NetSuite?+
For many small and mid-sized businesses, yes. Larger companies with multiple legal entities and complex consolidation typically stay with an enterprise ERP like NetSuite.
How customizable is ERPNext?+
Very. Custom fields, doctypes, scripts, workflows, reports, and full Frappe apps can be added without modifying the core, which keeps upgrades manageable.
