AppexTECHNOLOGY

Custom software for healthcare & wellness

Healthcare software carries a constraint most sectors do not: protected health information has to stay controlled, auditable, and inside systems you can account for. Appex Technology builds HIPAA-conscious scheduling, intake, and patient-facing applications for clinics, practices, and health technology companies — self-hosted where data residency matters, and designed so access is provable rather than assumed.

The problem

What tends to get in the way

PHI cannot go just anywhere

Convenient consumer tools are frequently not viable, which rules out much of the obvious off-the-shelf stack.

Paper and PDF intake

Forms filled by hand get re-typed into another system, which is slow and introduces transcription errors.

Scheduling drives no-shows

Booking friction and weak reminders translate directly into unused clinical capacity.

Fragmented records

Practice management, billing, and communication rarely share one view of the patient.

What we build

Systems built for this sector

  • Patient intakeDigital forms feeding structured data straight into your systems, no re-typing step.
  • Scheduling and remindersSelf-service booking with automated reminders to reduce no-shows.
  • Patient portalSecure access to appointments, documents, and messaging with the practice.
  • Clinical workflow toolingInternal systems for coordination, referrals, and follow-up tracking.
  • IntegrationsConnections to practice management, billing, and where required standards-based clinical exchange.
What shapes the build

Constraints we design around

These shape architecture from the start. Retrofitting them later is consistently more expensive than designing for them up front.

  • HIPAA obligations around access control, audit logging, encryption in transit and at rest, and minimum necessary access
  • Business associate agreements with every vendor that touches PHI — a constraint that shapes the whole stack
  • Data residency, where self-hosting in your own cloud account is often the cleanest answer
  • Retention schedules and defensible deletion
  • Accessibility requirements for patient-facing interfaces

FAQ

Healthcare & Wellness — common questions

Can you build HIPAA-compliant software?+
We build to HIPAA’s technical safeguards — access control, audit logging, encryption in transit and at rest, and minimum necessary access — and document how each is met. Worth being precise, though: compliance is a property of your whole organisation, including policies, training, and business associate agreements, not something a piece of software can confer on its own. We build the technical half properly and document it so your compliance work has something solid to point at.
Where does patient data live?+
In your own cloud account when self-hosted, which is usually the right answer in healthcare because it keeps PHI inside infrastructure you control and can account for. That also reduces the number of third parties needing a business associate agreement.
Can you integrate with our EHR or practice management system?+
Usually. Modern systems expose APIs, and standards-based exchange is available in many. Older systems may require database-level integration or scheduled file exchange. We assess the specific system during scoping rather than promising in advance.
Do you work with health tech startups as well as clinics?+
Yes. For startups the work skews toward building the product itself and getting the compliance foundations right early — retrofitting audit logging and access control after launch is considerably more expensive than designing for them.
Can AI help with clinical paperwork?+
For well-defined document tasks — extracting structured data from intake forms, classifying and routing referrals, summarising documentation — yes, with human review in the loop. We would not put a model in a position of unreviewed clinical judgement, and we design these systems so a person stays accountable for anything consequential.
